Sowmya is a seasoned Solicitor and Team Leader with over 30 years of experience in the legal field. Throughout her extensive career, Sowmya has demonstrated expertise in personal injury and litigation work, particularly medical negligence claims. 

In her current role, Sowmya leads a team of case handlers, including other Solicitors, overseeing the conduct of clinical negligence cases across various specialities and injuries. With particular focus on ophthalmology, orthopaedic, vascular, ectopic pregnancy, GP care and dental claims, Sowmya guides her team in achieving settlements for clients while ensuring efficiency and the highest standards of client care. 

Over the years, Sowmya has gained diverse experience in both claimant and defendant medical negligence claims, as well as high-value personal injury claims. She has also handled regulatory work related to medical professionals, represented parties at Inquests, and engaged in Judicial Review proceedings. 

What Sowmya finds most fulfilling in her role is leading her team to support clients through what can be a challenging journey following their injuries. Additionally, she takes great pride in teaching, training, and supporting her team members in their career development, contributing to their growth and success in the legal profession. AB 

Client suffered delay in diagnosis and treatment of eye condition resulting in permanent and complete loss of vision in the eye and requiring surgery to the eyelid. There had been a failure by an on-call Ophthalmologist to examine the client when he first presented at hospital with symptoms including floaters and blurred vision and there had been initial incorrect diagnosis. Settled for £65,000 

 

  • ANON: 

Extravasation injury to the client’s foot following placement of a cannula, leading to infection and requiring skin grafting by way of multiple surgeries. The client was diabetic so was at greater risk of infection. The client was left with significant scarring. It was alleged the hospital had failed to carry out review of the client or provided appropriate treatment for infection. The case settled for £80,0000.  

 

  • ANON:

Client suffered injury after vaccine injected high in the shoulder. Led to severe pain and immobility and weakness in the arm. It was alleged that the vaccine placement contributed to bursitis and inflammation. The claimant required subacromial decompression operation and impact on her activities. The case settled for £10,000
